We're better Connected
There is a well known mobile phone operator who have an advertising slogan “We’re better connected”. They are tapping into the idea that people today love to be connected, love to be in the know, love to feel part of something. They are right, we are better connected (if you can get a signal) we as people love to feel connected. Look around the world today and people are searching to belong to something, to be connected. Facebook and twitter are prime examples of how people in the modern world want to be connected and feel a sense of belonging.
I believe God has placed a desire in us as humans that longs for us to be connected. The problem today is that people connect themselves to all the wrong things which has a damaging effect upon their lives. The best life to live is one that is connected to Jesus. Jesus in John 15 described himself as the True vine and the branches represent ourselves. While we are connected to Jesus, we receive his strength, his power and his life. We could search all over the world to find something that makes us feel connected and still have disjointed and disconnected lives. However, a life connected to Jesus brings real satisfaction.
Not only are we connected to Jesus, but through Jesus we are connected to each other. Everyone enjoys feeling part of something. Take a team sport for instance, when a team has trained together and played together all year and they reach a final and win it, it is special, there is a bond there that all members of the team will remember. As a team they achieved something they would not have been able to do individually. It is important as a Church that we are united together, loving one another, forgiving one another, understanding one another, there for one another, help one another, speak to one another. Why? because we are better connected!
